Choosing a GPS tracker for your vehicle and where to fit it

G.D.E Corp · 14 October 2026 · 6 min read

GPS trackers, also called beacons, now go into trucks and private cars alike. But choosing one by its picture and price gets you nowhere: the right device depends on what you want to see. Here is where to start, what to connect to a tracker, how it is fitted and what to ask a supplier.

Start with the task, then the device

A fleet and a single-car owner need different things.

Fleet or business

  • Where each vehicle is now and where it went during the shift.
  • Real mileage: padded kilometres become visible.
  • Fuel: refills and siphoning.
  • How the driver drives: speed, idling, unauthorised trips.
  • Excel and PDF reports for accounting.

Personal car

  • Where the car is and where it has been.
  • Who is driving and how, if the car is used by a hired driver or a family member, or rented out.
  • Hidden installation and theft protection.

The more of the first list applies to you, the more the sensors and the software matter compared with the tracker itself.

Wired tracker or battery beacon

A wired tracker connects to the vehicle's electrical system. It stays online all the time, knows whether the engine is running, and accepts sensors such as a fuel level sensor. This is the kind a fleet or fuel control needs.

A battery beacon runs on its own battery and can be hidden anywhere. But to make the battery last, it reports less often, and the battery has to be charged or replaced. It takes no sensors. It is an option for finding a vehicle, not for day-to-day control.

What you can connect to a tracker

On its own a tracker shows where the vehicle is, how fast it is moving and whether the engine is running. The rest is added as needed:

  • Fuel level sensor: refills and theft to the litre. Without it, consumption is calculated from norms and mileage: less precise, but noticeably cheaper. More in How to detect fuel theft in your fleet.
  • Engine immobiliser: theft protection.
  • Panic button: the driver can raise an alarm.
  • Temperature sensor: for refrigerated trucks.
  • Camera.

Agree on the set before installation: which sensors you need depends on the vehicles and on what you want to control.

Where and how a tracker is fitted

The tracker is fitted out of sight. The installer picks the spot for each vehicle, and we do not publish it: the fewer people know where the tracker is, the harder it is to find and disconnect.

  • Factory wiring is not cut, no traces are left, and the manufacturer warranty stays valid.
  • 30–40 minutes per vehicle. A whole fleet takes one to three days.
  • At our office in Tashkent or at your site, in any region of Uzbekistan.

We do not recommend fitting a tracker yourself: accurate data and the car's warranty both depend on the installation.

How our installation works, the timing and what the package includes are on the GPS tracker installation page.

The software matters more than the hardware

A tracker only sends data. You see it in the software, and that decides how convenient it is every day.

  • MaxTrack is our own software. Fourteen reports, four of them on fuel. An open API connects it to 1C or your accounting system.
  • Wialon is the global standard for tracking. If your logistics manager already knows Wialon, there is nothing to relearn.

You can see the software before buying: we give you demo access.

If trackers are already fitted

In most cases another supplier's hardware does not need replacing. We connect it to our system, MaxTrack or Wialon.

What to ask a supplier

  1. Which software will I see my vehicles in? Can I try it before buying?
  2. Who fits the tracker? Is factory wiring cut, and does the car warranty stay valid?
  3. What is the hardware warranty?
  4. Can sensors be added later: fuel, temperature, engine immobiliser?
  5. What is included in the package and the monthly fee, and are there hidden extras?
  6. Whom do I call if something happens at night or at the weekend?

Our answers: MaxTrack or Wialon, your choice, with demo access; our own installers fit it, wiring is not cut; the hardware warranty is one year; sensors are added as needed; everything in the package is listed on the home page; calls are answered around the clock.

FAQ

Can I fit it to one car rather than a fleet?

Yes. Our clients include both single-car owners and fleets of a thousand units.

Do you work outside Tashkent?

Yes. Our clients' vehicles run in every region of Uzbekistan, from Karakalpakstan to the Fergana Valley.

What does it cost?

We quote the exact price after a short conversation: it depends on the vehicle type, the number of units and the sensors you need. After that there is a monthly fee per vehicle, with a discount based on fleet size. There are no hidden extras.

Do you work with companies officially?

Yes: a contract, invoices and full accounting paperwork.

We will match a tracker to your task

Tell us what vehicles you have and what you need to control. We will suggest what to fit and show you the software in a demo. Calls answered around the clock.
